There are just some pictures I can’t ignore and that I simply have to paint in my own way. I saw a painting of a woman earlier and I just had to make my own version of it.

Wanderlust: Visiting Ketut

Visiting Ketut
Bali, Indonesia
2014

“Do you ever feel that way?”
“Lonely?”
I search for the words. “Restless. As if you haven’t really met yourself yet. As is you’d passed yourself once in the fog, and your heart leapt – ‘Ah! There I Am! I’ve been missing that piece!’ But it happens too fast, and then that part of you disappears into the fog again. And you spend the rest of your days looking for it.”
He nods, and I think he’s appeasing me. I feel stupid of having said it. It’s sentimental and true, and I’ve revealed a part of myself I shouldn’t have.
“Do you know what I think?” Kartik says at last.
“What?”

“Sometimes, I think you can glimpse it in another.”

― Libba Bray, The Sweet Far Thing

I have yet to write about my trip to Bali for a weekend, but I have to say that this is definitely one of the highlights. Ketut is such an adorable man and being around him just makes you forget about every other thing in the world.

Me: I’m so happy to meet you Ketut!
Ketut: Me happy three times? Where you stay?
Me: Kuta, Ketut…
Ketut: Me go Kuta and visit you white woman!

Lol. I probably was at my darkest when I met with him as I went surfing the previous day, which made the conversation more adorable. In my mind, I was like, hmmm not white, Ketut. “You visit, asian girl, in Kuta! 😛

Anyway, I guess what I loved most about it was that he had such a beautiful aura. His smile is endless and contagious and even a few minutes with him was enough to make me forget about all the bad things that happened during the trip (like me losing my wallet–lol).

Thank you for the wonderful experience Ketut! You are such a lovely man and your light is ever so bright! x
